Advocacy is an important piece in The Junior League of Tampa’s work for deep community change.
From the number of complex issues on the ballot to navigating voting in a pandemic, this election season was intense for many of us. As a nonpartisan organization, our focus is on voter engagement; we believe our community is better when everyone has a voice and the opportunity to use it. Collaborating with other nonprofits and local election officials, our team spread the word about voting deadlines and the voting options provided in Hillsborough County.
Public Affairs and SPAC
The Junior Leagues of Florida State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC) represents 23 Junior Leagues in the state of Florida, serving as a collective voice in the advocacy arena. Together the Leagues focus on different issue areas, such as child welfare and early childhood education. SPAC closely follows legislation related to the issue areas, helping League members and the communities they serve understand the impacts. As a new legislation session begins and our local leaders look to lead us through the pandemic, insights from SPAC will be vital in JLT’s community planning process.
Human Trafficking Awareness
Human Trafficking Awareness has been important piece of the League’s work since the Abolish Movement was launched in 2014. Our goal is to inform our community about the issue of human trafficking and how we can put a stop to it in our area.
With Human Trafficking Awareness Month coming up in January, our team has been hard at work. Be on the lookout for the following items:
- Virtual Events for Human Trafficking Awareness Month
- Launch of the Don’t Buy It Tampa Bay Campaign
- Community Training Opportunities
