Diaper Bank Launch Plan

The Junior League of Tampa Diaper Bank (DB) was founded in 2018 by a group of concerned members. Since its inception, the bank has grown exponentially from 100,000 to 1,000,000 diapers distributed annually. With a focus on ensuring the sustainability of DB’s services, the League decided to launch the bank into its own nonprofit.

Why are we launching the Diaper Bank?

Ensuring Sustainability – Since the bank’s founding in 2018, we have seen unprecedented growth from 100,000 diapers to 1,000,000 diapers distributed annually. By creating a stand-alone nonprofit, the Diaper Bank will have a team focused exclusively on its success and sustainability.

Investing in Growth – Diaper need is a growing issue in the Tampa Bay area. By creating a stand-alone nonprofit, the Diaper Bank will become more agile allowing it to expand its partnership network and distribution channels to more extensively combat diaper need.

Following Historical Precedent – The League has historically used the develop and launch model for projects (examples include MORE Health). By creating a stand-alone nonprofit, the League is following successful historical precedent for gifting a project to the community.

FAQs

What does ‘launching’ the Diaper Bank mean?

The League has decided to ‘launch’ the Diaper Bank into a stand-alone nonprofit organization. Rather than being a project that falls under the umbrella of the League, the Diaper Bank will become its own entity with its own board.

Why did the League decide to launch the Diaper Bank?

The Diaper Bank has seen significant growth since it was founded in 2018, but diaper need continues to be a growing concern in our community impacting 1 in 2 families. To ensure sustainability and invest in the growth of the Diaper Bank, the League is following historical precedent by launching the bank into a stand-alone nonprofit.

What is the timeline for the launch of the Diaper Bank?

The Diaper Bank will officially become a stand-alone nonprofit in January 2025. In the coming months, the League will recruit a board, set up a governance structure, and ensure operational sustainability.

Will the League still be involved with the Diaper Bank after the launch?

Yes! The League will work with the new Diaper Bank board to develop a support plan following the launch that may include financial and volunteer support. Our number one goal is to continue to support families experiencing diaper need in Hillsborough County.

Will diaper distribution be disrupted for partners?

We understand that providing diapers to our partners allows them to better serve families in our community. We are planning an overlap timeframe with JLT and the new board to train and establish operations so the Bank continues to operate with no gaps.
