Children and young adults in the foster care system have long been an important population for the League. A major point of concern has been how young adult transition out of the foster care and into independent living.
Relaunched in 2017, the Ready to Achieve Leadership Academy serves young adults living in foster care. The goal is to encourage successful independent living and improve high school graduation rates for the participants.
The Leadership Academy accepted over 20 young adults this year. Over the course of nine sessions, participants improved their life skills as well as built relationships with the volunteer team. The sessions included a career event with speakers from different fields, a holiday volunteer opportunity with Ronald McDonald House, and a professional wear shopping event.
